How to sell tickets for an Auckland gig without a box office
K Road warehouses, Ponsonby bars, and one-night supports do not need a venue ticketing contract. Here is how NZ organisers put a night on sale and get people through the door.

Most Auckland rooms that host a Tuesday support or a Saturday warehouse do not run their own box office. You still need a public page, a way to take cards, and a scan that works when the queue hits the door. That is the job of an event ticketing page — not a Facebook event, not a spreadsheet, and not a cash tin you hope to count later.
Put the night on a URL you can share tonight
New Zealand buyers do not browse a national ticket mall for a 200-cap show. They tap a link from Instagram, a story, a group chat, or a poster QR. Publish an event with a city, venue name, start time, and at least one ticket type. Share that URL. There is no public directory you have to opt into — people find the gig because you sent them there.
Keep the page honest: who is playing, where to stand in the rain, and what the door actually scans. Auckland crowds forgive a raw room. They do not forgive a checkout that dies on mobile data outside the venue.
Price in NZD and let Stripe pay your account
Connect Stripe once. Card money settles to your New Zealand bank on Stripe’s rolling payout, not after the last song. Free guest list tickets can sit next to a paid GA type. Early bird can close on a date you set so you are not still selling cheap tickets while the room is already spoken for.
- Paid online tickets need Stripe before you can publish.
- Free tickets skip the card step and still get a QR.
- Pay-at-the-door types reserve a spot and stay unpaid until door staff mark them paid.
Run the door on phones you already have
Open check-in in the browser. Volunteers can use a door scan link with no Million Tickets login. The first successful scan marks the ticket used, which is how you stop a screenshot doing a second entry on K Road at 11pm.
A gig in Auckland sells on a link and gets in on a phone. If either of those is messy, the night feels amateur even when the band is not.
When you are ready, create the event, publish, and send the URL. The how-to library has the publish checklist if Stripe or ticket windows are blocking you.
